Putting the photo wall on a screen
The photo wall is a web page — that is the whole trick. Anything that can open a browser and reach the internet can show it: a laptop wired to a projector, a smart TV, a streaming stick. Pick whichever of these matches the room you are in.
Choose how the screen is connected
If you are not sure, ask the venue what their screen normally plugs into. A cable is the most reliable and the one to prefer when you have the choice.
A laptop and an HDMI cable
The most reliable method and the one to choose whenever the room allows it. Nothing depends on the venue's wi-fi being good enough to stream video, because nothing is being streamed — the laptop is drawing the page itself.
Straight from a smart TV's browser
If the television has a browser, it can show the wall on its own with nothing else plugged in. Fewer things to go wrong than any other method — but television browsers vary enormously, and typing a long link with a remote is genuinely unpleasant, so test it early.
Casting from Chrome
Chrome can push a browser tab to a Chromecast on the same network. Convenient when the television has no browser of its own — with the caveat that the laptop doing the casting has to stay awake, on the network, and in the building.
Apple TV, by AirPlay
An Apple TV can mirror a Mac or an iPad over AirPlay. Good if you already have one in the room; as with casting, whatever is mirroring has to stay awake and stay put for the whole evening.
A Fire TV Stick and its browser
A Fire TV Stick turns any television with an HDMI socket into one that can open a web page, which makes it the cheapest way to fix a venue whose screen has no browser. It runs the page itself, so nothing has to stay awake in the room.
True for every method
- The wall link is the one ending in /wall — not your guest link and not your owner link.
- Whatever shows it needs internet for the whole event, not just at the start.
- Turn off screen sleep and any screensaver on the device doing the displaying.
- Open the page full screen (F11 on Windows, Control-Command-F on a Mac) so no browser chrome shows.
- Test it in the room before guests arrive, not on the morning of.
